I am writing this review after 2 months of usage. I bought Nikon D5300 + 18-140 mm VR kit from the seller Dreamstore , one of the trusted seller i ever met . I got this superdeal of D5300 with Nikon18-140 mm VR at an unbelievable price of just Rs 43318 , with camera bag and 8gb memory card from Dreamstore, Amazon india . That time hp printer was not as bundled offer. Orderd as COD on 1st september 2016 and recieved on 7th september 2016..I got everything in complete sealed package , no tempering done .All warranty card are there inside the sealed box. Camera bag and 8 gb card present outside the box.Camera body made in Thiland.18-140 mm vr lens kit made in china. All warranty paper verified at nikon service centre, all are genuine parts , under 1 yr limited warranty.Comint to the camera , just one word ,awesome . Pictures quality is just awesome . Through out the range of 18-140mm view in this crop sensor body of d5300 were sharp and vivid. Autofocus works great in this 18- 140 lens both in daytime and during night. sometimes in dark it hunts for focusing. I have compare 18-55 vr2 lens of my friend to this 18-140 vr day to day life photos. But for long distance photos i suggest 70-300 mm nikon lens either afs-vr2 or afp vr.I recommend d5300 with 18-140 mm for everyday use, no need to change lens everytime, best investment to be done on first purchase. Though this lens is heavy around 490 gm needs, still feel comfortable grip hold, and needs 67 mm filter .Through out its range , from 18 mm - 140 mm, all photos can be clicked without tripod were sharp , but slow shutter shots , particularly at nights need tripod only. I am very happy that such a good DSLR camera with best alround lens i got in very low price than other trusted online sites.I found amazon india to be genuine one , and well trusted .The pictures clicked at 18 mm are very wide , good for landscape photos. But the photos clicked at 140 mm are sharp too but with added pleasant bokeh. Unless the subject is within near reach, or background is very far you wont get a super bokeh like a prime lens, but bokeh with 18- 140 mm are very acceptable(bokeh were more at 140mm). Very few barrel distortion and chromatic aberration seen, which can be corrected afterwords. Always shoot in RAW only.I got a good appreciation and appraisal for all my photos taken with d5300 and 18- 140 mm. After one month of usage i found no difficulties in manual shooting. While video shooting ,it caught the camera lens noise , during a autofocus ( not manual Focus) , it sometimes feel irritating. Video shoot at 60 fps full HD is a masterpiece. All were very smooth videos with good video quality. No complain in photo shooting. After one month of usage i bought a tripod : Vanguard espod cx 203 AGH with gunhead. one of best budget tripod from amazon this diwali. I highly recommended this tripod for shooting slow shutter photos particularly in night .All my problem got solved using this tripod as it is lightweight and of high quality. After that i bought two prime lenses , both 35mm Dx f 1.8g afs and 50 mm f 1.8g . Never compare this two prime lenses , they all belong for different purposes .They have their uniqueness with advantage over others. I love both, let me clarify all doubts here.# 35 mm f 1.8 is for low light night shots, indoor shots , indoor group shots, all round general street photography lens. its very comfortable to use in d 5300 camera body , but due to crop factor , it behaves as 52 mm lens, no need to change lenses. Its fast to autofocus, sometimes in night takes time to focus. Its very quiet. all night lowlight photos were good in fast shutter speed. Bokeh is excellent . Full body photo in indoor need atleast 8-10 feet space.all photos are extremely sharp. All photos are very colourful and vivid. I like this feature very lovely#50 mm f 1.8 is for low light shots, night shots ,indoor small head and shoulder shots .It is Not for indoor group shots( never), It is Not for indoor casual shots in 12*12 feet rooms( can be used if only head of a person you focus is needed with good bokeh).Due to crop factor of d5300 it becomes 72 mm short telephoto lens. It is for perfect portrait outdoor shots.little bit slower to focus than 35 mm f 1.8 . More lens noise in auto focus than 35 mm f 1.8 ( only marginally).....But the best advantage it got over 35 mm f 1.8 is that is has best bokeh, extremely excellent smooth vivid bokeh..even better bokeh than 35 mm f 1.8..very shallow depth of field make photos exteremely lovely. In one word if you want very good bokeh go for 50 mm. if u want indoor low light with bokeh go 35 mm.....But if you want both in one lens buy both. But if only one to choose among these two , better go for 35 mm ( with sacrifice of some amount of good bokeh)....that is acceptable if we take price into . Both prime lens are good and i highly recommend both.If you never compare you will never knew the difference.I got all these prime lenses in low price sale with good bank offers this diwali..Very lucky to purchase with such heavy discount.Anyway, D5300 with 18-140 mm vr lens is my first DSLR purchase and i love it. I am so happy i bought it from amazon india. Thanks for this gift at a low price.Touchscreen is not necessary for me. WIFI feature wih android app to click photos(tap to focus and click at click button on phone screen) and download original photos from camera memory card is a easy like breeze. Very useful. GPS is also very helpful in locating the location. Tilt screen is very good and screen quality is very good.i use filters for all my three lenses.Buttons on d5300 are very smooth and tactile.very easy to navigate. Toggling with manual to auto with override are all very smooth .For 18-140 nikon vr lens i had to purchase original hood from amazon at rs 525 separately. Its the lens which makes photos better, whichever DSLR you use. and the person behind the camera holds all credit..Better to purchase good lens than a high price dslr. I came to knew after all three of my lens purchase. Invest in good tripod is a must ( Branded).Happy shooting. thanks for reading such long review....JIM
I want this review be helpful for someone who is making a decision for his first DSLR.One sentence review is, buy this if you value photo image quality above everything else.Obviously if you are looking at D5300, you will have the following cameras in your consideration. Nikon D3300, D5200, D5500, Canon 600-750D.Let me tell you that if you just want pictures to be taken in auto mode and do not want to tinker much, then you can choose any of these cameras they are all fine. But if you want to eke out the last drop of performance, there is nothing better than D5300 in cost/performance right now. Why ?It is the best APSC image sensor in the market that can challenge a D800 (per Ming Thein). Some Cons:1. No built-in motor. (Not a big deal, most lenses are AF-S anyways)2. Average Live-view and remote shooting abilities.3. Typical Nikon video control limitations. While Canon is busy repackaging their 2009 sensor in incremental updates, the Sony sensor in D5300 is top of its class. By the way, the straight out of camera pictures of D5300 is as good as canon, a weak point for al Nikon cameras before this generation. So the only place it lacks is pro level video capabilities that Magic Lantern can unlock for Canon cameras. If you need responsive live-view, video controls, skip Nikons. Canon is a better wholesome package. For image quality that is best in the industry D5300 is as good as it gets.Against other Nikons:D5200 > While pretty good, I consider the D5300 a worthwhile upgrade.D3300 > Cheap D5300 with missing features, buy if you cannot afford D5300.D5500 > D5300 + Touch Screen without GPSBy the way, buy with 18-140mm and not any other bundle, you will thank yourself later. Of course, buy the 35mm 1.8.
If somebody want to purchase it to shoot the video then there is an issue in it. It makes video continuously for 20 minutes. If you want to make a video longer than 20 minutes then you need to start again and again. This is very draw back of this camera. Actually I purchased it specially for making videos for YouTube but its video shooting limit is big drawback. Although camera is nice. I purchased in pre-Diwali period on 12th October, 2018. So I got some offer on SBI Debit Card (Max Rs. 2000 relaxation). I purchased it only for Rs. 38990. Camera is genuine and of good quality. I got 16 GB Memory Card, one Camera Bag, 1 lady bag, 2 lens(18-55 and 70-300mm). Don't go for higher ISO Camera because High ISO video or images becomes useless. If you can afford then purchase with lens cover, monopod/tripod, extra battery and memory card because these are important accessories when you do photography.
